Every day we have to make choices: Should I buy cheap food from the supermarket next door or should I make the effort to get pricy organic products from a farm? Does it matter if I try not to use plastic even if everyone else around me doesn’t seem to care? Can I put this in the trash or is there a way for upcycling?
We want to make the right decisions but let’s face it – that can be very difficult and frustrating sometimes. But everything gets easier when you have people around you who face the same struggles and are also looking for the right answers: That’s why we invite you to join this year’s German-Egyptian exchange program!
The program brings together young people from Egypt and Germany to spend an amazing summer – in both countries! During that time we will not only explore the topic but get to know each other, have fun, and make new friends. Since we will both be foreigner and local at some point we can both learn from each other AND share our experience fostering a mutual understanding! Furthermore you have the unique chance to network with participants, organizers, speakers and institutions from different countries and backgrounds which might even lead to collaborations afterwards.
Together with 28 participants (14 from each country) we will look at the current environmental challenges as well as the scope for action that we have. Moreover you will have the chance to take part in interesting workshops, exciting debates around different topics and contribute to the exchange with YOUR skills and experience.
The exchange will take place between the 22nd of August until the 6th of September (12-14 days in total) in Berlin and for about two weeks in thebeginning of October in Cairo and Fayoum. It is coordinated by BUNDjugend Berlin (Young Friends of the Earth Berlin) and AYCM (Arab Youth Climate Movement Egypt) as well as Icealex. In order to take part you need to be between 18 and 26 years old and able to attend the whole program. You have to be either Egyptian or German.

This exchange is a project as part of the German-Egyptian Transformation Partnership and is financially supported by the German Federal Foreign Office. A co-payment of not more than 400€, will cover travel, accomodation, food and trips. The program includes sessions with experienced speakers as well as DIY workshops and an introduction to critical consumption and sustainability. You will have immediate contact with environmental activists and explore and discuss the topics together with them.
